Maybe you have the dream of appearing on the first page of Google and getting thousands of website visitors per day. But this process, which for many seem like an act of alchemy, can start with small steps that are ignored on many websites and which are the first things we try to keep right at Toky as pages are added to our website.
1. Descriptive title and with some keyword on it
I have seen many websites whose title is something like yourcompany.com or with only the name of the company. The title is the first thing that a visitor will see in the search engine so you should take advantage of it explaining what your company is doing and to add at least one important keyword that your business can be searched for. In the HTML code of your site the title will look similar to this:

It is recommended that the titles do not exceed 50 or 60 characters to ensure they appear complete in search results, but you can also make them longer, but the search engine will truncate the text around that limit.
2. Proper description on all pages
When you do not specify a suitable description for each page on your website, search engines like Google take the first lines of text or sometimes can take data without relevance like the date, total visits etc. which is worse. It is vital that this description has more details about what your company does or what the page is about, including a few more keywords.
In the HTML code of your website the description will look similar to this:

Search engines generally show the first 155 characters, so you should take advantage to add good keywords not included in the title.
3. Add Alt text in every image and proper filenames
Images are key to a good user experience but they can also be useful to your SEO. For this,-shoes you must name your images correctly and avoid filenames like img0001.jpg and put something like pink-shoes-woman.jpg. Besides, it is good to add an Alt text that describes what the image is about. This would be the complete example in the HTML code:
<img src="pink-shoes-woman.jpg" alt="Elegant pink women shoes">

4. Have enough text on each page
If you think your website looks great with all those images on important pages, you may need to also analyze the accompanying texts. There are many cases where because of the design relevant content of the pages remains in the images including important texts. Search engines can not read the images and assign them keywords and sometimes if you have very little text on a page search engines interpret it as not relevant, which will cost you positions in the search results.
5. Enable Google Analytics and Search Console
Google Analytics will allow you to analyze the traffic of your website so that you can find opportunities to improve and also measure the results of SEO optimizations you can do. Google Search Console on the other hand, will allow you to validate the way the search engine is indexing your site and also notify you possible errors.

6. Submit your websites to search engines
While you can wait for search engines to discover your site, it is better to submit them at least to the most important ones such as Google, Bing and Yandex in case your service is global and include Russia and other countries. In the following links, you can submit your site to Google, Bing and Yandex; the last one requires registration.
7. Include keywords in the texts naturally
Stop believing that the more keywords you have on a page, the more you will gain positions in the search engine. The term Keyword Stuffing is basically saturating texts with keywords; this is penalized by search engines like Google. You should review the texts of your website and validate that they include the keywords important for your business in an appropriate wording and providing information to the visitor.
8. Use friendly URLs for your pages and content
The use of what is known as "Friendly URL" allows you to include keywords in the link of your content and thus improve both SEO and user experience as it will be much more understandable that your features page is yourcompany.com/Features-of-service to yourcompany.com/p1001.html.
9. Avoid repeated titles, descriptions, and content
Many times you can take a page as a template to create a new one and this is where elements like titles and descriptions appear duplicated. When this happens, search engines do not know which page to display so they impact your SEO ranking. Validate that in your site does not exist pages with titles, descriptions and even content duplicated.

10. Write for your visitors and not for search engines
Your visitors must find valuable content on your site and for this, you must learn to write for them. It does not matter having thousands of visits if every visitor enters your website and leave without at least spending time on the website and know your company. When a user enters a site and leaves soon, it generates what is called bounce rate; a very high bounce rate can tell search engines that your content is not relevant to the keywords the visitors used to find your site and thus punish your ranking in the results.
11. Make your website mobile-friendly
It is said that 48% of people use search engines on their mobile devices so that search engines like Google will give better ranking to those websites that are friendly with smartphones and tablets. To validate this you can use the Mobile-Friendly Test of Google.
12. Improve your website loading speed
The loading speed of your website affects the display on mobile devices but also your search engine ranking. You can check your website speed with GTMetrix which evaluate your site and suggests tips to correct problems.
